Bryn Edmondson BA (Cantab) MA
Bryn Edmondson BA (Cantab) MA is a garden designer based in Lymington, working across the New Forest and South Coast.
With over twenty years’ experience designing, building, and planting gardens, his work combines clear structure, thoughtful planting, and a deep respect for place, context, and sustainable, wildlife-friendly design.
Bryn founded Bowercot Garden Design in 2001 with his father, Alan Edmondson, and together they have created a wide range of gardens, from contemporary urban spaces to larger rural landscapes. This long-standing practice established a strong foundation of horticultural knowledge, practical experience, and an understanding of how gardens mature over time. Bryn now continues this work under Bryn Edmondson Garden Design, bringing the same values forward into a focused, design-led practice.
He studied Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge and later completed a Master’s degree in History and Creative Writing. This academic background strongly informs his approach to garden design, fostering an understanding of our relationship with landscape, the influence of tradition, and the way places acquire meaning over time. These ideas sit naturally alongside a belief that good gardens feel rooted, coherent, and deeply connected to their setting.
Bryn’s design process is collaborative and considered, responding closely to the character of each site, the architecture of the house, and the needs and aspirations of the people who live there. His work is underpinned by sound horticultural practice and a careful approach to planting that supports biodiversity while remaining elegant, practical, and enduring.
In 2023, Bryn co-authored Designing and Creating a Coastal Garden, published by The Crowood Press. The book draws on over two decades of experience working in coastal conditions and offers practical guidance on creating resilient, sustainable gardens by the sea.
