The brief was to create a garden that balanced elegance with practicality, providing beautiful outdoor spaces for everyday family life while encouraging the clients' growing enthusiasm for plants and gardening.
DESIGN RESPONSE
A Journey Through The Garden
The front garden creates a calm and welcoming arrival, with gravel paths and pleached hornbeam providing strong year-round structure. Beyond the house, the landscape opens into generous perennial borders, productive planting and informal lawns, leading visitors naturally through the garden towards the stream and swimming pool.
An orchard is set within wildflower meadows, while a timber boardwalk crosses the bog garden, creating a memorable journey through one of the site's most distinctive natural features. Bespoke details, including a fire pit inspired by the clients' travels in Kenya, add personality and a strong sense of place.
PLANTING APPROACH
Spring blossom to autumn seed heads.
The planting celebrates the changing rhythm of the seasons. Blossom fills the orchard in spring before giving way to wildflower meadows alive with pollinators. Generous perennial borders provide colour throughout summer. Around the stream, bog plants soften the boardwalk, ensuring there is always something new to discover as the year unfolds.
