A front and rear garden inspired by the nearby coast and New Forest, combining richly layered planting, crafted materials and carefully designed outdoor spaces for everyday living.
Coast & Woodland Inspired Garden
The brief was to transform both the front and rear gardens into spaces with distinct but complementary characters. The clients were drawn to a layered, painterly style of planting, with loose drifts of perennials combined with a strong underlying structure.
DESIGN RESPONSE
Welcoming Arrival, Textured Planting, Outdoor Living
The front garden was completely reimagined around a new brick pathway leading to the entrance. Heritage-style reclaimed bricks establish a timeless character, while sweeping bands of gravel and rounded cobbles reference the nearby coastline.
To the rear, the design becomes more architectural. Large-format paving, a bespoke timber pergola and retractable canvas shade create flexible spaces for dining, entertaining and relaxing. Carefully positioned planting softens the hard landscaping, while providing privacy and seasonal colour throughout the year.
PLANTING APPROACH
Sunny drifts to woodland shade
The planting combines generous drifts of flowering perennials with evergreen shrubs that provide year-round structure.
In the shaded areas beneath mature trees, the planting palette shifts to suit woodland conditions, creating a calm transition between the cultivated garden and its natural surroundings.
